Hi guys,

With less than 2 months till this years 40 hour famine I have started planning and am going to begin fund raising soon.

What are you planning this year? How much are you guys aiming to raise?

Last year i went for 40 hours without speaking but i only raised $200 and i believe my experience could have been better; i went without speaking for 40 hours but some people spend their whole lives without a voice. So this year i am going to do several consecutive famines. My goal is to raise $1000, as world vision says $40 will feed 8 kids for 1 month, $1000 would feed 200 kids for a month!!!

The amount of famines I do will depend on the amount I raise, hopefully this will encourage people to donate more. The famines i plan on doing are:
- any $$$ = no food
- over $100 = no speaking [+ no food]
- over $250 = no technology [+ no food + no speaking]
- over $400 = no personal space [+ all above]
- over $600 = limited water [+ all above]
- over $800 = confinement [+ all above]
- over $1000 = no shelter [+ all above]
- over $1250 = constant labour/housekeeping [+ all above]

If i raise over $1000 i will be famining for 280 hours (just over 11.6 days)

I hope that by doing the famine this way people will be inclined to donate more and that i will get a better experience.

What do you guys think of this idea?

Wow, a great plan! I love the way you can market that. :) I hope that you can reach amazing goals, especially $1250 or more! Although your amount last year is a gem too.

I am not sure if I will partake... may have to see someone about joining their group, because I don't know if I want to be a group leader this year. But I will certainly support people if I have money. Good luck, love to hear your stories! x

Wow, forgot it was coming up...
Head is so muddled lately.

I had great plans for this year, but to be perfectly honest I think my friends will think its too cold, and I'm too scared of the dark to do it alone :P

Not sure if I'll do it because I'm not sure if Brazilian exchange students understand this kind of thing :P

I'm being a Group Leader again this year, and have distributed most of my receipt books. I'm going to organise some group door knocking parties, and some forays down the mall for donations. I'm going to go without food, furniture, transportation and technology this year, for a challenge.

thanks for the support SiobhanMarie :). I hope you and xJessimin do partake this year because every cent helps.
Good work Albatross, you sound really organized. I hope your plan to go without food, furniture, transportation and technology goes well.

I sound organised... sorry for misleading you, haha. I'm not, really. The worst part for me is the 'I know what I want to do and how to do but now I gotta pick up the phone....' part. Does anybody find that? I know I should organise door knocking next weekend, but I find it hard to approach people and begin organising it.
Does anybody else have any tips on how to raise money? Apart from personal sponsorship? I should probably contact businesses or something, but has anyone found a technique that worked really well for them?
