I'm afraid it was only launched in mid 2005 and it has been refreshed a couple of times since then, sorry that you don't like what we've done. It's actually all under review at the moment
could you also stick to topic - why do you fight the war on poverty? We set up the 'today' thread so you can talk about things like this

I fight poverty because rarely can the people in poverty fight for themselves.

Well we're all global citizens and we're only as strong as our weakest link. As people, we'll only ever accomplish great things if we all come together...

hehehe, that entirely depends on what your world view. If you have a relativistic world view then the word 'great' loses pretty much all meaning :P as do pretty much all the other descriptive words, such as strong or weak :P Also, on what basis do you determine that we are all global citizens? and what do you mean by that?
(felt like playing the Devil's advocate :P)

OK. Well, why do people refer to countries as third-world when they're very much dissimilar to our own but lack our economic stability? Why is it that some view them as of a lesser importance? Again, we come back to equality and EVERY man on this planet has the basic human right of access to water, food, shelter, education. There is no third world - we only have ONE world. We all originated from the same being and our DNA intertwines us all together - we're of the same blood! If our own brothers and sisters cannot fend for themselves and fight these issues of poverty, HIV/AIDS,education and access to water, then we must help them for it is our calling/duty. Jesus was an exemplary example of this Owen :)
What do you think?

I agree, the idea of a '1st' and '3rd' world is oversimplified and has some scary connotations. Personally i would never use that terminology. Even 'developing' and 'developed' ,as used to define nations, promotes a very narrow outlook. all countries are developing in some regard...for example you could say that in terms of environmental sustainability australia is developing....china may be economically developed but in the area of human rights is still 'developing'...we have not reached some pinacle of development for which all 'developing' nations are striving.

I think that 1st and 3rd worlds are used in a humane sense... of how far each country has become in regards to human rights; however I don't believe that Australia is a developed country.

Alright, today I've been going around reviving old topics. This is an excellent question, and it's made me do a lot of thinking.
Why do I stir? Because it makes me angry that people suffer and still are suffering.
It makes me angry that we are responsible for it, because our way of life is dependent on the rest of the world being easily used and manipulated- if everybody lived the perfect consumerist life, there would be no cheap labour, no ignorable farm workers, no-one without a voice to take advantage of.
It makes me angry that a lot of people I know don't really mind that this happens, because they 'can't do anything'. That we are all at fault for it, if only in the 'Good men who don't do anything' sort of way.
And I'm sick of being angry, so I try to help.
That sort of sums it up, I suppose. What do you think?
